The sold-out event was opened with introductions from Vice-Chancellor Professor Evelyn Welch and Professor Harry Mellor, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Postgraduate Research), who highlighted the value that postgraduate research brings to the University, following the University’s commitment to invest £16 million in postgraduate research (PGR) scholarships in 2022.
The celebration hosted a mixed media gallery containing artwork, posters, videos, sculpture and poems all created by the scholars to creatively showcase their research. Alongside this, eight scholars delivered high-quality PechaKucha presentations on wide-ranging topics from unlocking the mysteries of galactic ice giants to the perils of analysing algal blooms in the artic, and exploring brain-body connections in emotional experiences to mitigate feelings of disgust, which were followed by insightful panel discussions chaired by Professor Guy Poppy, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Professor Michele Acuto, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement). The talks were followed by a networking reception where prizes were awarded by the judging panel for the following categories;
